"Dr. Roberts will serve as our Chief Academic Officer with the title of Dean, Trinity School of Medicine" said Steven R. Wilson, President of Trinity School of Medicine. "We have been searching for the right individual with the proper credentials, energy and leadership qualities since the inception of our Medical School. I look forward to working with Mr. Steve Wilson, President, Dr. Edward Johnson, Dean of Caribbean Studies, Dr. Manuel Suarez, Dean of Clinical Studies and the faculty and administrative staff in creating a medical school in the Caribbean that is second to none. This appointment is a unique opportunity to lead an academic team that will develop a curriculum with small group instruction, integration of the basic sciences with problem based learning, the introduction of clinical medicine early in the first year of medical school and providing a rigorous clinical training experience in US hospitals. I have been most fortunate over the years to be in a position to teach medical students and witness their excitement and enthusiasm in learning the art of medicine. I would also join Mr. Wilson in recognizing the effort and leadership of Dr. Johnson during the initial stages of establishing the medical school in St. Vincent and I look forward to the continuation of our mutual interests in medical education" said Dr. Roberts.

Trinity students are getting the best clinical experience possible
March 18, 2009
Dr. St. Clair Thomas, Chief Medical Officer, Ministry of Health confirms that the University of the West Indies has approved the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital in St. Vincent for:
Trinity School of Medicine has exclusive rights to use the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital for teaching purposes and other health facilities designated by the Government of St. Vincent and the Grenadines for the clinical studies of any medical students enrolled at Trinity School of Medicine. This confirmation assures students that they are getting the best clinical experience possible and one of the few truly integrated hospital experiences from any Caribbean Medical School. It is this designation of Milton Cato Memorial Hospital and the Hospital’s rich history of teaching medical school students that help separate Trinity from its peers in the Caribbean.
Few, if any other Caribbean Medical Schools have the capability to offer Advanced Introduction to Clinical Medicine on their respective island like Trinity School of Medicine has. This allows Trinity students to continue their 5th semester on the island, a distinct advantage that eliminates our students from having to move needlessly to another location for the 15 week term like most other Caribbean Medical Schools. Our students receive a far better learning experience with physicians they have been working with since their first semester.

Trinity School of Medicine officially opened its doors to the inaugural class of first year medical students on September 8, 2008. “Classes are underway with a stellar group of students,†indicated the Provost. The composition of the class includes 25% from our neighbor to the North – Canada, and we expect that cohort to continue to be strongly represented in future class starts. “I believe our low faculty to student ratio (1 to 4) and the integration of the clinical sciences (the association with Milton Cato Memorial Hospital beginning with our very first semester of basic sciences) have contributed greatly to such a strong and highly touted group of students. The formal orientation to clinical medicine (during the first two weeks of the semester) has been completed and I believe we surprised some of our students as to how effective and important this initial integration will be at the outset and throughout the basic sciences.â€

Trinity School of Medicine is pleased to announce its listing in the FAIMER-IMED. FAIMER is the Foundation for Advancement of International Medical Education and Research and IMED is the arm of FAIMER that provides the formal listing of those medical schools who are accredited by the appropriate government agency in the country where the medical school is located. In the case of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, the agency responsible is the Ministry of Education and the Honorable Girlyn Miguel, Minister of Education, formally notified FAIMER on May 8, 2008, of the formal accreditation of Trinity School of Medicine by recommendation of the National Accreditation Board, on April 12, 2008. The final step in the process for formal listing of the school is the commencement of classes. The fall semester at Trinity School of Medicine commenced on September 8, 2008 and the official listing was added to the IMED database on Friday, September 19, 2008.
What does this mean for our students? This formal listing and the assignment of a code provides the “ticket†for our students to register for and take the USMLE Step 1, Step 2, and Step 3 examinations through the ECFMG – the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates. This organization also certifies foreign medical graduates for participation in the National Residency Match Program (NRMP).
With this listing, Trinity School of Medicine students are now on a level playing field with those from the US and from other foreign medical schools who are privileged to be listed in the FAIMER International Medical Education Directory (IMED).
July 11, 2008
The Trinity School of Medicine has enlisted the services of a distinguished group of medical educators and practitioners to provide oversight and guidance as we develop and deliver a medical education program that reflects the best thinking of our faculty, as informed by national and international trends and experts. Our overarching Vision Statement “to be the premier international school of medicine training highly qualified and successful practitioners to meet the escalating need for physicians in North America and the Caribbean†provides the framework within which we have created this medical school that represents the very best in medical education – small in size and in numbers of students but with a richly experienced faculty and staff in place to launch a sophisticated and timely curriculum that prepares its students for success in their medical training and as clinical practitioners.

July 7, 2008
Trinity School of Medicine has leased a multi-use complex called Harmony Hall which will house the medical school during its start up years. It is a beautifully landscaped, multi-level complex that is minutes from the airport, downtown Kingstown and the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital – where students will be engaged in clinical applications from the very first semester of the Foundations of Medicine. The campus includes fully furnished, private and semi-private apartments where many of the first semester students will be domiciled. All facilities of the medical school are on campus including two lecture halls that are in final completion stages and will be ready for occupancy before classes begin in early September of this year.
