Kingstown, St. Vincent - October 18, 2009

October is International Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Trinity School of Medicine students were out in full support of the campaign organized by the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Medical Association (SVGMA). Over the course of three days, students took part in two local events to promote understanding of the issues associated with the disease and resources for information and assistance.
On Friday October 16th, Trinity School of Medicine students carried thebanner that led the SVGMA's 3rd Annual Pink Cap City Walk for Breast Cancer Awareness. To add more impact to the cause, on Sunday, October 18th, participants armed with pink umbrellas gathered in the Chamber of Industry and Commerce Car Park to form a living version of the Breast Cancer Awareness Pink Ribbon.
Both the Walk and Ribbon events drew participation from members of a number of organizations including the SVGMA, Soroptomists International, The La Gracia Dancers, Nurses and Nurses Association,Girl Guides Association, St. Vincent Jaycees, West Kingstown Women’s Group, and students of Trinity School of Medicine. The events assisted with fund raising efforts led by the SVGMA to ease the financial burdens of patients seeking cancer treatment from overseas facilities.
Trinity School of Medicine was founded in 2007 in response to the developing shortage of physicians in the United States and Canada. Trinity offers a new path to opportunity for prospective physicians who thrive in an environment of small classes, frequent and personal attention from faculty, and a curriculum that integrates clinical experience into the first four semesters. Trinity School of Medicine’s curriculum, education, and standards for student success are based on the US model of medical education. Students at Trinity are eligible to sit for Step 1 and Step 2 of the United States Medical Licensure Examination and are eligible for certification to participate in the National Residency Match Program. Trinity School of Medicine is located on the island of St. Vincent in the Eastern Caribbean with US headquarters in Alpharetta, GA.
