A message from the Dean

Dear Prospective Trinity Medical Student,

It is with great pleasure and excitement that we welcome you to the Trinity School of Medicine. We believe that this will be a rewarding adventure into the future for all who become involved in this well conceived medical school. Our curriculum and approach to medical education are geared toward blending the most time honored and modern methodologies of learning in a nurturing and student friendly environment. By incorporating a traditional “apprenticeship” relationship under the tutorship of highly qualified clinical and basic science faculty beginning the very first days of your educational experience, with innovative techniques of learning, we hope to develop extremely credible and well prepared medical graduates. Early clinical experience will be gained at the 210 bed Milton Cato Memorial Hospital in Kingstown, the capitol of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, as well as in the public and private clinics of our clinical faculty and the on-campus teaching laboratories of Trinity. One of our primary goals will be to integrate didactic learning with clinical application from the very outset of your journey into the art and science of medicine.

My experience includes having spent the past 12 years in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines working in medical education. Prior to that, I was Program Director of an infectious diseases training program in Newark, New Jersey, for more than a decade. Although most of my time is focused on medical education, I continue to work with the infectious diseases consultative group that I founded in New Jersey. It is our belief that we can best direct your development as future physicians by maintaining clinical and basic science faculty who are currently active in clinical and academic settings. Utilizing the skills of North American, international and regional physicians and basic science faculty in both full-time and visiting capacities will give the prospective student a wide range of experience and exposure to modern medical practice.

You will find that Saint Vincent and the Grenadines is a beautiful and embracing environment. The government and citizenry of this beautiful windward island have long been accustomed to enjoying the presence of visiting medical students during their studies in this their fair country. The medical establishment has been actively involved in the training of both regional and external students for more than 30 years. We welcome you to give us your serious consideration in allowing us to assist you in achieving your goal of becoming a capable and successful physician.

Sincerely,

Edward S. Johnson, MD
